Time is the only order
Posters are sorted by start time and nothing else. A venue that talks to me gets no better spot than one that does not. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.
A program reads the calendars
A program reads public calendars most mornings, and the wall prints the time of the last read. Each listing becomes a poster with the same layout, and a gig on three calendars shows up once. A weekly event shows its next date, not fifty copies. When two listings disagree, the program picks the likelier one, or asks me.
A poster holds facts
The program does not write event descriptions, and it does not copy anyone’s. A poster holds the title, the time, the place, who it is for and what it costs. For the full description, the poster links back to the source.
The wall is for things you leave the house for
Council meetings, garbage days, flu clinics, church services, support groups, rehearsals and weekly drop-in classes stay off the wall. If one of yours was left off and should be on, tell me and I will check the rule.
Blank means the source did not say
If the source does not say who an event is for or what it costs, the poster leaves it blank. Free only shows when the source said free.
Every poster names its source
Every event here came from someone else’s calendar, or someone sent it in. Every poster names its source and links to it, so the people who did the work get the visit.
Boards are scored on how they post
The sources page lists all 69 boards with a score out of 100. The score looks at whether listings are complete, correct, fresh, posted early, real events and well described. Size does not count, so a small hall can score as high as a big tourism office. A board that scores under 60 comes off the wall.
A cancelled event stays up until its start
When an event is cancelled or moved, a strip across its poster says what happened and when I found out. It comes off the wall once its start time passes, and its page stays up. If a listing vanishes from its source, its page says so and the poster comes off.
Wrong? Tell me
Every event page has a link that says Wrong? Tell me. It opens a form already filled in with what the wall says, so you fix only the fields that need it. I read every one and reply within two working days. If a fix takes longer, I will tell you when it will be done.
Yours comes off when you ask
If you run an event and want it off this site, ask and it comes off. You do not need a reason. Email hello@kootenayslate.ca.
A town gets its own page at three events
A town gets its own page once it has at least three events in the next 30 days. Until then, its events show on the region wall. Counted on , 19 towns have their own page:

Revelstoke and Golden are not the Kootenays
Both are in the Columbia Shuswap region, over the passes. This wall covers the West, Central and East Kootenay and the Boundary, in 9 valleys, each with its own page: The Boundary, The Lower Columbia, The Slocan Valley, The Arrow Lakes, Kootenay Lake, The Creston Valley, The Rocky Mountain Trench, The Elk Valley, The Columbia Valley. If a listing names a town outside these valleys, I still file it under that town, so nothing is lost.
