Privacy
The short version: this site has no accounts and runs no advertising trackers or third-party scripts. The only personal information here is what you type into one of two forms, and you can have it deleted by asking.
Who is responsible

What is collected, and why
When you submit an event. The event details, plus your name and email address. The event details are published. Your name and email are not: they exist so I can confirm the listing, send you the link that edits or cancels it, and ask you a question if something is unclear.
When a form is submitted. The originating IP address is recorded alongside the submission, for one reason: to make abuse of the form traceable. It is not used to profile anybody and it is not shared.
Nothing else. No cookies are set by this site. No analytics script runs on it. No advertising network, social widget or embedded player is loaded, and the site’s content security policy would refuse one if somebody tried. Standard server logs are kept by the hosting provider for security and diagnostics.
Event information from public sources
Most of what is on this site was published by somebody else first, on a public calendar or feed, and it is business contact information: a venue, a time, a booking line. That category is treated differently by Canadian privacy law from personal information, and it is what this site is built from.
Where an event is run by a person rather than an organisation, that person’s name may appear because their own listing carried it. If you are that person and would rather it did not, say so and it comes off. You do not need a reason.
Who it is shared with
Nobody. Submitter and subscriber details are not sold, rented, traded or handed to venues or organisers. The two service providers that necessarily see data are the host that serves the site and the email provider that carries the mail. Neither is given anything beyond what the service requires.
How long it is kept
A submitter’s contact details are kept while the event is on the site and for a year afterwards, so a correction can be traced back to whoever sent it.
Your rights
Under British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act you can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. Email hello@kootenaylist.ca and you will have an answer within two working days, and the actual deletion no later than thirty days.
If I have handled something badly and cannot put it right for you, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia takes complaints.
Changes to this page
If the practices change, this page changes on the same day and the date at the top changes with it. It is not backdated and it is not quietly edited.
